It is definitely a tough thing to do when you haven’t spoke in front of such a large group of people before. Also, it is a hugely emotional day in your life, giving away your little girl! They really do grow up so fast, five minutes ago she was just a munchkin playing in the back garden and now here we are.

Preparation is Key

There is no need to be nervous, once you have done your work in advance. The biggest fear for speeches is forgetting to thank or mention someone really important. There is no need to worry though, ask some other family members to read your speech before and make sure that no one was left out. A second pair of eyes can be a great blessing in this case. If worst comes to worst, STILL do not worry! Those you have forgotten will understand the pressure and will hopefully be having too much of a good time to even notice!

Practice Makes Perfect

The greatest way to break down the nerves on the big day is to become a seasoned public speaker. Rehearse your speech every few days in the weeks running up to the wedding. It doesn’t always have to be with people, even a mirror will suffice. You will slowly start remembering bits and pieces and become much more comfortable and confident in your performance.

From the Heart

Most importantly, this day is about your beloved daughter and her new Husband or Wife, so make sure to say what you are really feeling. I know Dads aren’t always the most emotional of creatures, but make an exception this once, because it will mean a lot to her. Even if she is mad when her makeup is ruined by a bit of crying. Totally worth it!

Photo by Three Nails Photography via Style Me Pretty

We are dishing out advice for the bride’s parents, we featured advice for all those ladies looking for the perfect Mother of the Bride outfit earlier.
