Drooling over gorgeous deserts is a little bit of a hobby here at WeddingDates (hey, look, don\u2019t judge us\u2026. It\u2019s practically our job!) but, how do you decide on the perfect wedding cake<\/a> on a wedding day?\u00a0Here are some tips on how to choose your wedding cake!<\/p>\n

A Good Bakery<\/h2>\n

Seems straightforward right? Well if you know a good bakery in your local area, then you\u2019re set. But, if you\u2019re living in a big city, you need to start with a little online research. The best way to test if a bakery is doing business is their Facebook page. If the images are up to date, then they\u2019re probably getting a lot of business. Also, positive feedback, likes and testimonials are a great sign.<\/p>\n

Of course, the best way of finding a good bakery is word of mouth! If you\u2019ve been to a party with amazing treats or you\u2019re friend knows a lady who does amazing cupcakes; hunt them down! Nothing beats someone who has actually tried their treats!<\/p>\n

Next, meet with the staff of the bakery in person. If you\u2019ve decided on this bakery then ideally you should be walking out of there with an image of the cake: either a drawing or a photo of one like it. If they fail to answer your questions or try and push you into a cake (not literally) then it\u2019s a bad sign!<\/p>\n

Time<\/h2>\n

Four months is the ideal amount of time to plan your wedding cake. If you know your theme and colours as well as the wedding venue, you\u2019re good to go! After that, the clock will start ticking and unavoidable roadblocks in your planning could crop up.<\/p>\n

Taste<\/h2>\n

This can\u2019t be stressed enough\u2026 Taste your cake before ordering it! Do not assume anything when it comes to the taste, especially if it has multiple flavours.<\/p>\n

As well as this, avoid exotic and quirky tastes. The bigger your guest book, the more people you will need to cater to so try and keep to a taste that most people can enjoy.<\/p>\n

And whatever you do\u2026.<\/h2>\n

Don\u2019t wait until the last minute to place your order. So many bakeries have calendars in place weeks or months in advance. Special ingredients may need to be ordered in and some cases, created.<\/p>\n

Another mistake is having too much input. Couples can be driven crazy with friends and family mixing in the creative pot, but at the end of the day, it\u2019s your cake and your wedding! A good cake maker will know the best ingredients anyway\u2026 that\u2019s what they\u2019re for!<\/p>\n
