Maybe it\u2019s because I have a wedding coming up soon (attending of course!) or maybe it\u2019s all the inspiring frocks we\u2019ve seen this week at the Oscars (Kate Hudson stole the show in our eyes) but we\u2019ve been thinking a lot about fashion don\u2019ts for wedding guests in the office lately.<\/p>\n

We all have at some point had the experience of attending a wedding or event having very little idea what is expected of you attire wise. While, this may feel like a minefield, avoiding the following fashion blunders at wedding should keep you on the right path.<\/p>\n

Avoid Black\/White<\/h2>\n

Some brides are traditionalists, others are not. I\u2019ve been to a wedding wearing both black and white where the bride actually complemented my dress. I\u2019ve also worn cream to a wedding and received the stink eye from the bridal party across the room. The lesson? When in doubt, leave it out!<\/p>\n

If You\u2019re Not Sure, Dress up<\/h2>\n

Most invites will either say the dress code outright or will give some solid hints \u2013 formal speech\/tone lends to a formal wedding. The type of venue should also be an indicator. But if you happen not to see the wedding invite<\/a> in person, or you\u2019re still not sure, dressing up instead of down will keep you somewhat safe. This is pretty much a rule for attire in life! We\u2019re not saying wear an extremely flashy ensemble that will outshine the bride but over dressed is usually better than underdressed. Definitely do not wear denim in any shape or form.<\/p>\n

Forget About Accessories<\/h2>\n

Often, wedding guests put a huge amount of effort into the dress and shoes but don\u2019t think about a pretty coat, purse. A huge faux-pas in our eyes is seeing a gorgeous and fresh gown paired with an out dated shabby jacket. Try to think about your ensemble as a whole piece and how it will all come together.<\/p>\n

Do\u2019s<\/h2>\n
    \n
  • Wear a great perfume.<\/li>\n
  • Take a selfie of your wedding guest look.<\/li>\n
  • Wear wedges if you will be outdoors on the day.<\/li>\n
  • Add safety pins to your purse \u2013 you never know if you will need them!<\/li>\n
  • Do a dress rehearsal to see how well everything goes together \u2013 including hair and make-up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
