Because of social media, camera phones and the accessibility of higher quality technology, it makes sense that we have become a more visual society. Even they way we attend weddings these days is totally different to 10 years ago! We live in a world where we can capture moments in an instant; and it’s an amazing era for wedding photography.

Because of this, there are some wedding photo trends incredible trends out there! While not all of these are new, favourites for 2014 courtesy of XXLPIX, European professionals for premium photo products in Berlin.

The Wedding Selfie

Selfies are just a given in today’s society. We have to say, we like the idea of a wedding selfie – there is something fun, spontaneous and intimate about it. We have seen some lovely wedding selfies in our time and there something sweet about the informality of it.

The First Look

When these are done well, “first look” photos are just lovely! Although this trend is bigger in the U.S. than here, this is definitely one to watch out for. If you’re more traditional and don’t want to see your partner before the ceremony, why not ask your photographer to capture the moment that you lock eyes for the first time.

The Wedding GIF

The wedding GIF trend exploded a few months ago with photographers like Cynthia Chung making huge waves with stop motion style photography. Pretty much like a living portrait, these GIFs look incredible and have a slightly mysterious and gothic romance to them.

Retro Style Posing

Similar to wedding GIFs, this style of photography requires some stilted and ‘matter-of-fact’ style posing from couples. Think 1800s when photography required a few minutes to capture! Classical portrait inspiration works too. When juxtaposed with contemporary quality photography, this style has a beautiful throwback approach to it.

Fly on The Wall Photography

Gaining more and more popularity as time goes, is documentary photography. This is probably the easiest style to work with as it really requires little work from the photographer’s subjects. Genuine moments captured are truly beautiful and cannot be easily beaten by other styles in our opinion!

Details

Smaller details such as how the dress looks or wedding décor captures something that is not usually observed by the everyday person. Similar to a fly-on-the-wall style, shots featuring smaller details give another layer to the day and capture something you may have missed yourself the first time around.

Photobooth

Two words: extremely fun! Not a new tradition, wedding photobooths are a great source of entertainment for guests later on in the night. Great for capturing spontaneous moments, there is always some fun to be had in a photobooth!

Main image: MMStudio – fotolia.com
Thank you XXLPIX for sharing these trends!
