HaytorNewton Abbot
Set at the base of Haytor on Dartmoor, The Moorland Hotel boasts 11 acres of landscaped grounds, paddocks and woodland. the Moorland Hotel is steeped in history and saw Agatha Christie write her very first novel over a two week stay, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Sir Tommy Flowers visited regularly after a demanding career at Bletchley Park during WWII, where he invented the Colossus machine (the worlds first programmable computer) to help solve encrypted German messages. Ava Gardner, Robert Taylor and Mel Ferrer et al have also been guests whilst the hotel stable horses were recruited to star in the film ‘Knights of The Round Table’ and the life-sized set of Camelot was erected at Haytor.
In 2017 when we purchased the hotel, The Moorland Hotel underwent its first refurbishment since 1960. We have 36 luxurious bedrooms available for bookings, AA grade of 4 stars and 1 Rosette within our restaurants. All visitors will be greeted with exceptionally stylish bedrooms, finished using the highest quality furnishings, brand new bathrooms and a selection of rooms that provide stunning views of the moorland landscape. Our experienced and friendly staff are here to see to your every need, providing lots of little treats during your stay to ensure your stay with us at The Moorland Hotel exceeds all your expectations, hopefully leaving you wanting to return time and time again.
