The Bear Hotel

member of staff we came across went above and beyond for our special day. Event coordinators, reception staff, bar staff, waiters, evening staff & the night porter (keeping the bar open for us until we went to bed!).

We hired the Cider House across the road for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready in and it was perfect! We all relaxed downstairs and hair and makeup were done upstairs, we had loads of space to chill and even had a spare room quiet enough for the 18-month flower girl to have a nap! The ceremony went perfectly, the transitions between ceremony to dinner and dinner to party ran so smoothly. The canapes were lovely, the drinks were great and honestly, even two weeks later guests are still talking about the food. When people talk about our wedding you can guarantee someone will mention how nice the beef was!
The day staff worked so hard & organised everything so well, and then the evening staff were amazing! Really chatty and friendly, again everyone went out of their way to give us a perfect, memorable day. Absolutely went above and beyond.
We used some services from people we'd met at The Bear's open evening and you could tell that they had all worked with the bear loads because everyone knew what they were doing and again it just ran so smoothly.
Most of our families stayed at The Bear that evening and the rooms were lovely. It was lovely to see everyone at breakfast and around the hotel the morning after.
We really had the most perfect day - from our original viewing, the food tasting, meetings and handover to the actual wedding and the morning after, not a thing went wrong and we are so grateful to everyone for making our day so special.

meant there was a lovely flow to the day and there wasn't a massive wait in-between.

The courtyard was absolutely gorgeous in the sunny spring weather!

All our communication before the event was also super easy, and they constantly reassured us and answered our questions.

would be open when we wanted our photographs. We went for a twilight package as this suited our needs and budget. It was great that the venue offered this flexibility as it was a big factor in us choosing The Bear. In the lead-up to the wedding day, Amy and Gemma were really on top of organising the fibre details Being able to drop all of our decorations the day before, and go through the last few details helped to iron out the plans but also allowed us to envision the wedding as the room was dressed for us, which was very exciting. On the wedding day, all staff members were welcoming, helpful and friendly. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the bedrooms and friendly the staff were. We loved that whilst the hotel is a public space, whilst we were at the wedding, it felt very private and intimate, as the area is separated from public areas. The wedding food BBQ buffet was delicious, and the waiting staff were great. We would not change anything about our wedding; we had the best time, and our guests all commented on the wonderful venue.
