York

First among England’s walled cities and home of the glorious, gothic York Minster, the City of York proudly shows off its long and distinguished history through every turn of its tiny cobbled streets. Situated on the banks of the River Ouse, York bustles year-round with locals, students and tourists taking advantage of its rich arts and culture scene, excellent restaurants and bars, and many, many pubs.

York Racecourse hosts 15 major race meets each year, which attract hundreds of thousands of racegoers and can cause congestion and sold out hotel rooms, particularly the weekend of the August Ebor Cup. Engaged couples are advised to check prospective wedding dates against the racing calendar, and any York wedding venue will be only too happy to advise.

Guests at your York wedding may well wish to make a mini-break of the trip to take in all this city has to offer. Year round, The M1 and M18 bring tourists to the local A-road links, and there’s a robust Park and Ride system in place. Trains, however, are an excellent way to travel to York and the city’s lovely Victorian train station is like something out of a BBC period drama. York boasts excellent regional connections and high speed rail links to London and Edinburgh, and a connection to Manchester Airport, two hours away by rail.
