We have to admit, a personal element when it comes to anything will always win us over. So when we find a venue like Stirk House Hotel, who pride themselves on adding those extra touches, we always have to know more. Denise Sinclair, Hotel Manager at Stirk House Hotel, gave us the inside scoop on what a typical day at the venue is like…
Stirk House Hotel is surrounded by history and a wonderful sense of ‘old charm’. Is this what attracts couples the most? What pieces of history do you love to share with them?
The character of a 16th century ivy clad Manor House does attract bride & grooms, along with our beautifully landscaped 22 acres of grounds which are ideal for wedding photos. As with period properties elsewhere, with age comes ‘old world charm’ and here at the Stirk House, we feel we have blended the 16th century with the 21st century. The Character of the property remains in the form of romantic mullioned windows and the original fireplace, complete with working log fire; perfect for those cold days and a wonderful edition to photographs.
We love to share snippets of the hotels history with our bride & grooms. In fact, the very first bride & groom to be married in a Civil Ceremony at the Stirk House Hotel, took place way back on the 21st September, 1995 and the hotel has proved to be a popular location ever since.
The Stirk House has links with the nearby Sawley Abbey, in which parts of the stone fireplace was built using the stonework from the former Abbey.
How far in advance do your couples decide on their menus? That must be fun!
This can be a really fun part of the planning process! Couples usually choose their menus 6 weeks prior to the wedding date. Generally, it is for a starter, main course and dessert with an option for any vegetarians or guests with dietary requirements. Pre-ordering can be arranged for the Bride & Grooms wanting to offer a choice of starters, mains and desserts. These should be provided also at the 6 week period with a table by table pre-order (multiple choices, depending upon numbers for the Wedding Breakfast).
Someone told us that Stirk House Hotel has won the Small Hotel Award from Lancashire Tourism Awards. This must have been an amazing achievement! Was it a team effort for everyone?
To win the Small Hotel of the Year Award for 2013/2014, has been a great delight to the whole team at Stirk House Hotel. Our team works exceptionally hard in every department to ensure that the smooth running of the hotel encompasses the amazing weddings we have here. To create such a welcoming, friendly yet professional atmosphere at the hotel has been at the fore-front of our ethos, coupled with offering excellent food & service and comfortable interiors. As a team, we always strive to be the best and this is most definitely seconded by our vast array of wholly satisfied Bride & Grooms. So yes, it was a team effort… We are all thrilled!
