Yeaaaahhh! You’re a new bride about to plan your wedding! As scary as it sounds, your wedding is going to be amazing, but it can be daunting at first. Here are some bridal gown shopping tips…
Stock up on some wedding books and magazines. More than likely, they will have a list of upcoming fairs and events and will be able to give you a good starting point for suppliers and venues.
Cut out in magazines or pin on your boards anything that catches your eye. Even if it’s just a colour or a type of photo, you will be able to create a picture of what you want your wedding to look like.
Decide on your theme. Your theme can be based on your relationship or something that means something to both of you. From there, your theme should be able to influence your decisions… Bands, décor, dress.
From there, your idea of dress should be fleshed out. Take into account your shape and height. Call local stores in advance to see if you need appointments. Most stores will also offer a personal service to consult with and give advice.
Bring your best bra and undies when dress shopping. If you wear a bra that fits well and neutral or white undies, you will get a better idea of how it looks. Bring a range of strapless and spanx to get a better idea… As well as heels!
Limit the amount of people you bring dress shopping with you to one or two: your mom, best friend or sister. People who will give an honest opinion with out trying to force you into taking a dress as well as having your best interests at heart are vital.
Photograph the dresses you try on afterwards so you can remember what you loved about them. Remember to bring a scrapbook of your ideas or a tablet with your Pinterest board to give the assistants an idea of what you want.
Prepare yourself to try on fits and styles you may not have chosen for yourself. Remember, many boutiques have expert assistants who see a huge range of shapes and sizes come in. Be open to ideas and as with any item of clothing, you don’t know until you try it on!
