Quick Tips For Choosing Your Wedding Colours

Get out your colour wheels…

It’s time to choose your wedding colours! Now, if you’re reading this, you might be a little unsure of where to start when it comes to choosing your wedding colour palette or maybe your questioning yourself. Well, have no fear… Planning this part of your wedding should be fun! After all, what better way to really incorporate your unique wedding style and personality from your walk down the aisle all the way through the reception. Each bride (or couple) has their own unique tastes, so don’t get bogged down in what’s on trend! Truly decide on the hues that fit a wedding day you’ll be proud to share with your family and friends.

Here are some quick tips to get you pointed in the right direction for choosing your wedding colours…

Get Inspired

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, one of the best places to start if you’re unclear on your overall vision is to gather inspiration! There are plenty of places like Pinterest, Instagram and blogs to find out what the latest colour trends or combinations are…and who knows maybe you’ll see a colour scheme you’ve never even thought of that fits your wedding style perfectly. But again, if what’s “on trend” doesn’t fit your style goals, don’t fret about thinking outside the box.

Tie In The Season

Thinking seasonally can be very important. Just like our closets, there are just some things better left hung up for another time of year. Think about what your overall theme is and how your colours will be used throughout your day to bring out the season. More moody colours like burgundy really enhance the ambience of an autumn wedding, while a soft pinks are perfect for a springtime celebration. For summer, more daring hues like turquoise brighten up the day, while hints of gold or silver add the perfect sparkle to a winter wedding.

Colour 101

You don’t have to be an expert to choose the perfect colour palette for the big day. Colours that are opposites on the colour wheel (yes consulting a colour wheel can help! Do it!) usually go very well together. Think purples and yellows, or shades of orange and blue. Likewise, shades on the colour wheel that are somewhat similar also pair nicely. Variations of red and oranges make for a truly dreamy autumn colour palette.

Your Vision

Don’t feel like you have to choose your colour palette based on the latest trends or what tones are hot this year. If they’re simply not your style THAT’S OKAY! Be true to your own bridal style and individual personality. If you’re not feeling this year’s Pantone colour of the year, choose shades you’ll look back on and be happy you chose. Don’t forget to take into consideration how you plan to incorporate these colours too. How will they look on your bridesmaids, and how will they be carried over to your overall decor? The colours you choose can have a major impact on the overall vibe you’re looking to create on the day.

The Venue

Don’t forget about the venue! Depending on where you’re tieing the knot, your wedding venue may have its own colour scheme. If you have a set vision in your mind of what colours will play a part throughout your day, this could be a factor you take into account while you’re choosing your dream venue. Don’t feel like you have to settle or change your whole vision after the first show-around. However, once you have set the date, do take into account how your wedding will be styled at your chosen location.
