It was love at first sight…
After locking eyes for a brief moment, as Troy was leaving the pub and Alex arriving, Troy returned a half-hour later just to ask her on a romantic dinner date.
He later surprised her when he popped the big question during one of their traditional weekend lunch dates. The pair celebrated their special day in a classic and elegant styled wedding where there was no shortage of smiles, happy tears and lots of laughter. See all of the beautiful details of Alex and Troy’s glowing day below…
The Beginning
“We met in Newcastle on Melbourne Cup day in 2007. We locked eyes as we passed each other outside a pub in the early afternoon – Troy was leaving the pub as I was just arriving. Troy came back to the pub about half an hour later to find me and ask me out to dinner.”
The Proposal
“Troy popped the question in May 2015 while we were having lunch at Margan Estate in the Hunter Valley. We often go out for lunch on the weekend and I had organized this particular date, so had no inkling that Troy was going to propose – it was the best surprise ever!! He proposed just with a diamond and we picked the setting together the following week. After lunch, he surprised me again by taking me to my parents’ house where our immediate families were waiting for us for a mini celebration.”
The Dress
“I knew I wanted a slim-line style with a train. I chose the Pronovias ‘Vicenta’ gown because of its delicate features, including the lace detail and illusion neck-line, but it still had wow factor (like the low cut back and amazing train!). As soon as I tried it on I knew it was something special.”
Memorable Moments
“Walking down the aisle with my father and seeing tears in Troy’s eyes (and most of the guest’s eyes!). It was a very special and unique moment.”
The Vision
“I wanted classic styling, and the venue needed only minimal decorations given its spectacular views. I had envisioned a gold and white style, but added in navy blue to warm the palette on advice from my decorator and am so glad I did.”
RELATIONSHIP ADVICE
“Always find time to talk (about everything) and laugh!”
Any Changes?
“Nothing – I was really happy with everything on the day.”
Planning Advice
“Allow yourself plenty of time so that you can enjoy the process, give yourself plenty of options and not feel time-pressured. (We had nearly two years to plan, which was good because we moved cities and both changed jobs during the first 12 months of our engagement, so that took a lot of our time). I would also recommend a wedding planner and decorator to take away any worries about set-up on the day.
Most importantly, take a moment on the day – even if only a minute – as a couple to cherish the moment and acknowledge you just got married!”
