If you dream of tying the knot in a venue filled with history surrounded by stunning gardens, then the New Place Hotel is the perfect place for you.
Ornate wrought-iron gates welcome you to a charming Hampshire village venue ideally suited to truly fulfil that special day experience for you, your friends and family. New Place is an idyllic spot in which to invite guests to share your special experience and indulge in some precious time together, seamlessly blending traditional and modern spaces over 32 acres of landscaped gardens, including their Grade I listed manor house.
New Place Hotel is located in the Hampshire village of Shirrell Heath, near Wickham, which is almost directly between Southampton and Portsmouth. In 1904 Mrs Franklyn commissioned the famous British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens to design a house which incorporated the magnificent interior features of an existing early 17th century mansion in Bristol and to encapsulate the name of Shakespeare’s house in Stratford, called New Place.
Many of the rooms in this exquisite building contain the original ceilings, fireplaces and panelling transported down from Bristol. New Place became officially ready for occupation in 1908 when Mrs Franklyn lovingly gifted the home to her son, Captain Henry Arden Franklyn, as a wedding gift, which is very fitting considering its current use.
Home to the largest collection of Philip de Laszlo paintings in the world, the hotel is full of character and history, housing 13 of the enchanting paintings in their now aptly named De Laszlo room. Philip De Laszlo was an Anglo-Hungarian painter, known for his portraits of royal and aristocratic people in the 1870’s.
With plenty of room, the venue has 110 modern and comfortable bedrooms which are chalet style, separate from the main manor house itself. A brand-new addition to the hotel, the unique Franklyn Suite, has also just been added. The suite is set completely separate to their other bedrooms and is one of a kind with its own lounge area, en-suite bathroom with stand-alone bath and walk-in shower and large bedroom. A perfect room option for the newlyweds retreat.
A large pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna, and a gym are among the leisure facilities available on site for all guests. Everything is considered including over 200 parking spaces on site for guests with blue badge spaces outside of their accessible rooms. Additionally, the manor home and grounds of the venue has accessible access and ramps.
Some beautiful words used from their previous couples:
‘Well what can I say, from start to finish we had the most memorable, beautiful day ever. Nothing was too much, and we felt like royalty.’
‘The hotel and grounds are beautiful. We stayed in the Franklyn suite, which was amazing, so much room, clean and fresh. The staff helped us all the way through the day we didn’t have to worry about anything. Food was spot on, both for the wedding and the breakfast the next morning. Staff all friendly and helpful, can’t thank this hotel enough.’
‘We don’t know how to begin to thank you and the team for making our wedding day so incredibly special. For us it was magical, absolutely unforgettable. Our guests have been talking about it for days and are describing it as ‘amazing’ ‘joyous’ and ‘perfect’ and they’re right. As a team you have helped to create a wonderful event in a safe and supportive atmosphere.’
‘We’ve had the most amazing compliments about our day, and everyone has said how amazing it was. We feel so lucky. I am so proud to say we got married at the New Place. Thank you for bringing my dreams to life.’
