The internet is pretty much full of sensational stories about people calling off their weddings. From that guy who rang his bride up ON THE DAY to tell her he wasn’t coming to the guy who pretended he was dead, there really is no shortage of crazy last minute runaway brides and grooms.
Even though the internet has exposed to some crazy Richard Gere/Julia Roberts stories, it has also sent us some of the most heartwarming tales ever. One such story that really got to us today was, Phil Laboon, the guy who decided to turn his wedding into a fundraiser for charity.
When Phil and his fiancée decided to cancel their big day, instead of retreating to themselves and sulking over a failed relationship, they decided to turn it into something positive that would benefit others.
Since their break-up had been pretty last minute, they decided to keep the reservations they had made for the venue, food and music, and instead sold the tickets for $75 a seat, with proceeds going to Surgicorps, an organization that helps underprivileged children around the world who are born with medical problems.
The pair named the event LemonAid (a fiiting metaphor as Phil mentioned it was all about turning life’s lemons into something great!) and has since sold out. Phil told WTAE “ It makes you feel good that we’re literally going to be changing a massive amount of kid’s lives – it makes it almost feel like it’s not the worst thing in the world have to cancel a wedding.”
Wow! What a sweet story and we are pretty confident this guy won’t have any problems finding another match.
