Mark & Donna have been married since the 28th of June, 2014. They held their vintage themed reception in The Royal Scots Club, Edinburgh and had a beautiful wedding, without costing them a lot. Family and friends were a huge blessing and helped this young couple’s dream wedding come true.
“We were together for about a year when Mark proposed. We talked about it before, so I had picked out a ring that I liked. He bought it and surprised me one night when we went for a walk. I said ‘Yes’ and the rest is history.”
“Pretty soon after we became engaged, we started looking at venues. The Royal Scots Club was the first one we visited. As soon as we walked in the door, we knew it was the place. It fitted in well with our vintage theme and has so much character. Once we were shown around and spoke to Ayesha, the wedding coordinator, we were sold. You would be hard pushed to find a better venue with more helpful staff. From the day we booked it, to the day we got married on the 28th of June, everything ran so smoothly.”
“I had my dress for about a year before we actually got married, as soon as I had seen it, I wanted it. We were keeping costs to a minimum so I looked for a dress online. I used Star Bridal Apparel, I don’t think I could have gotten a nicer dress in the style I wanted. My Gran used to be a dress maker, so when the dress arrived she did any alterations that needed to be done. We were really trying not to spend a fortune on one day, so we got a lot of help from our amazing friends and family. Our wedding photographer was Lauren Stewart. a family friend and an amazing photographer. We would definitely recommend her for any event. She is very professional and made everything so easy for us. There are so many good photos we don’t even have a favourite, because we love them all.”
“My friend is a hair dresser, so she did my hair and I did my own make up and nails. We didn’t really have flowers, apart from my bouquet. We had a very intimate ceremony with just close family, there were only 15 people in total at the ceremony and meal. The Royal Scots Club decorated our dinner table with their own centrepieces and decor, it looked beautiful and was hassle free. Another friend of ours in Dean Village Cakes, made our cake. It looked and tasted amazing. ”
“We had a vintage theme, mainly because of my dress which was a 1940’s inspired gown. We didn’t put a lot of extras into the ceremony or meal decorations, but for our evening reception there was around 150 guests on ten tables. I made my own vintage inspired centrepieces, card box and wishing tree. I bought stuff from charity and craft shops and spent a few weeks making everything.”
“We hired a vintage car, which actually broke down on the way there, which was pretty funny! We ended up being towed to a garage and the guy took us to the venue in his Land Rover instead. He got us there in time, so everything was totally fine. He even managed to get the vintage car up to the venue for us to get photos with it! Our meal was amazing, we attended a food tasting a few weeks before the wedding. It was really nice, as it gave us a good idea of what the food would be like on the day. We had Parma Ham with Baby Mozzarella, Red Pepper Pesto and Seasonal Salad to start with. For the main course, we had Supreme of Chicken stuffed with Haggis accompanied by a Whisky Sauce, Fondant Potatoes and Vegetables. Dessert was a fantastic Chocolate & Drambuie Parfait. All amazing.”
“We had a Band called ‘The Rising Souls’ who are friends of ours, they are a local band who do all of their own material. They are a soul band and it’s well worth catching one of their gigs around Edinburgh, as they’re pretty amazing. After the band, we got my Husband’s friend, Jean, to DJ. She plays lots of Soul and Motown music, which is the kind of music we love. She DJ’d until around half 11 and then we simply used a playlist on my iPod to play out the rest of the night.”
“There were so many really lovely moments and great memories, It’s hard to pick out a favourite. but I’m sure no one will mind me saying that my favourite present, was a picture of a tree that the girls at the nursery I work for had given us, with all the children’s finger prints on it. It was so cute and they made my day (along with everything else of course.)!”
A huge thank you to Donna and mark for sharing their special day with us. If you want a day as special as theirs, find out more about the Royal Scots Club, Edinburgh Wedding Venue.
