Your big day is coming up. Everything is sorted. The catering, the honeymoon, your suit…. The speech? Maybe not exactly tied down yet but its in your head right? We can understand that it may be a little difficult to express how you feel to everyone. Your loved one definitely knows it but wouldn’t it be nice for her to hear you proclaim your undying love to everybody? Sounds cheesy, but that is why you are getting married after all!
Well, instead of procrastinating and avoiding it, we have a few quick tips on how to write a great groom’s speech!
Complement Your New Wife… A Lot!
For a lot of women, it’s the day they’ve been dreaming about forever. So more than likely, she won’t be happy with her husband pointing out her faults so don’t! Mention how great she looks and how much you love her.
This also includes any skeletons that may be in your relationship closet. Avoid any references to exes, even if it’s ‘all good’ now and especially if they’re in the room!
Keep it light
No negative connotations about the ‘ball and chain’ or her turning into a ‘nagging missus’ after you’ve sealed the deal. This goes back to making the bride look good, so if you find yourself making that joke… just go back and read over step one above!
Instead, to include how happy you are to have her as your wife. Everyone loves a good crowd pleaser and your bride will be delighted that you mentioned her in such a heart warming way!
Avoid the cheese
Nothing wrong with a little bit of cheese here and there but try and keep it mild. Avoid predictable poetry quotes or the ‘marrying your best friend’ line. If you want to include a little cheese, just make it original. For example, a genuine story from your relationship like when you knew you wanted to marry her or how you felt when you first met her always is perfect!
Make it count
The speech is more about how you deliver it than anything else. Make sure you’re looking at your bride if you talk about her and pause for the right moments.
Definitely practice your speech over and over again until it’s ingrained in your mind. If the thought of even speaking in public send your stomach in a twist, performing it a few times before will definitely work wonders!
