Usually, choosing you wedding venue is the first part of the wedding planning you undertake, so it’s important to start off on the right foot. But, where do you start? We asked Claire, senior wedding coordinator at The Grand Hotel Eastbourne, the top questions to ask your wedding venue!
What question are you asked most by couples?
Generally they are along the lines of what preferred suppliers we recommend and the standard questions like ‘do we allow confetti?’, ‘can we have a menu tasting?’, ‘how many weddings do you hold on one day?’
Do you take more than one wedding on each day?
No, we only take one wedding per day, it is such a special day for our bride it wouldn’t be nice to all bump into each other!
What is the silliest question a couple has asked you? No names necessary!
We have had a few unusual requests from a couple dressing their staffies as ushers to Star Wars Storm troopers on the front steps welcoming guests.
Are all of your preferred suppliers local? Would it be possible to meet with them?
No, they are not all local however if you would like to meet all of them under one roof here at the Grand we do hold two Wedding Showcases a year when they all come here for the day and it gives future brides the opportunity to talk with them and discuss their bespoke requirements. They are always posted on our website and the next one is on Sunday 8th September 2013.
The Grand Hotel Eastbourne must have so much history to it. What has been your favourite wedding to plan?
The hotel first opened its doors in 1875 so over the years it must run into hundreds of weddings! All weddings are special in their own way but we arranged a large Jewish wedding which was so interesting due to the very specific traditions and food required. Highlight was seeing the Bride and Groom being carried on the chairs!
Can the couple bring in their own bands/ entertainments?
Yes, we are very happy for your own entertainment, this can take the form of band/disco/harpist/casino tables…anything really! The only thing we do ask all bands etc is to sign the Public Liability forms and show they have insurance cover.
Can the couple taste the food before choosing a menu?
Absolutely, we encourage the Bride and Groom to have a menu tasting of 2 choices of each course. Our Head Chef is always on hand if needed too. This is a complimentary service we offer to all couples.
What do you think worries couples the most when planning their wedding days?
Probably going over their planned budget, that is why we offer all inclusive packages, no hidden extras what so ever” What you book is what you pay for
When you meet a couple what do you need to ask them?
Everything related to the hotel to ensure that the Event management team can provide a memorable day for the couple, from numbers to timings, food and favours! We also put together a very detailed programme for the event, which the Events Team runs through with the couple before the big day!….
What Photo opportunities are there in the hotel on a rainy day?
We are so lucky to have so many public areas perfect for the indoor shots. These range from magnificent fireplaces, floor to ceiling mirrors, elegant staircases and covered front hotel steps! Of course when the sun does shine we can do a wonderful beach shot just across the road!
In your opinion, what is the one question that every couple should ask a venue before booking?
There are so many questions to ask, but more than questions we think it is most important for couples to fall in love with their venue and have total trust in the people looking after them. That way they can concentrate on all the other things that go into their special day!
