With that in mind, consider styles that you think you will love over time, especially if you think your taste is likely to evolve and change. Diamond encrusted rings, gemstones or plain wedding bands are definitely ones to consider especially when deciding between a more traditional or trend-led wedding ring. It’s important to do your research and once you’ve narrowed it down, you can shop for the best quality ring and style that will have you delighted for years to come. It’s also possible to go the extra mile and give your wedding ring an even more personalised touch. Many jewellers offer a bespoke service which is ideal for those who can’t decide.

Engagement Ring vs Wedding Band
Deciding between whether or not to pair your engagement ring with your wedding band or replace it altogether, can be a nerve-racking decision. If you like the idea of wearing the two, it’s important to consider how the two will sit together. Depending on the style and shape of your engagement ring, it is essential to contemplate a style that will complement your engagement ring. Two of the major concerns brides have in finding a beautiful wedding ring are 1) whether it will clash or overshadow their engagement ring and/or 2) finding a band that embodies the glamour of an engagement ring should it be worn on its own. If you have chosen a statement engagement ring, my advice would be to pair it with a sleek and plain wedding band or a bridal set to avoid the two from clashing. If you’re considering replacing your engagement ring with a wedding band but still would like to retain old traditions, why not opt for a channel setting. This allows you to feature jewels of your choice set in a traditional plain band.

Shape
Choosing the shape of your wedding band can often leave you spoilt for choice as there are a few things to consider i.e. the band width (thick or thin), curved or straight, mixing metals and having a tiered, paved or plain setting. Fancy designed shapes (tiered and paved settings) are a perfect choice for a glitzier styled ring. These settings are ideal for diamond encrusted or gemstone wedding rings. For a more sleek and elegant wedding ring, I would strongly recommend a slim and/or twisted wedding band. It’s important to window shop; try on a few different styles to decide which shape suits you best.

The Australian/ Hollywood actress’ beautifully crafted wedding set coupled with her vintage inspired engagement ring and classic gold band is the perfect example of how to mix the old with the new.
Budget
There are all sorts of tales about how much a wedding ring should cost but the truth is every couple is different. I would recommend that you spend whatever feels right for you. Plain wedding bands tend to be cheaper than fancy styled rings i.e. diamond encrusted or gemstone rings. Another point to consider is your wedding band setting. Ring bands range from white gold, platinum, and silver to yellow gold. Gold, whether white or yellow, is the most popular and enduring choice. White gold is coated in rhodium, a metal similar to platinum, to create a real white look. Unfortunately, this thin layer of rhodium will eventually wear off. To keep a white gold ring looking its best it should be re-plated approximately every 12 to 18 months. Platinum is the strongest jewellery metal, resistant to damage and tarnishing, making it a great choice if you can afford it. Prices tend to be cheaper for online purchases compared to retail stores. My advice would be to buy from a recognised and reputable brand as they will be able to support you in the future or offer additional services for years to come.
