If you are are a lover of words and quotes, you might be considering including some poetry into your wedding day. There are many ways to do include wedding poetry in your special day. Perhaps you wish to give your bride or groom the gift of a personal poem on this special day, poems as wedding decor, or even a special poem to share with your guests as wedding favours. Nothing expresses your thoughts more than words, although some of us find it difficult to put these together. This is where I discovered Nightingale Poetry, they produce bespoke poetry written especially for you or your loved one. Below is a poem that was commissioned for a civil partnership in London, take a read.
The Thinking Man’s Marriage
Now here is something art
has never quite caught up with.
It must, therefore, be truly something
For me to have built cathedrals
and not once constructed God.
For my palette to be cracked from aborted
brushes with depiction.
I have washed my hands of contour,
shape and space.
I am sick of pitch:
the key is always an octave off.
Never has fabric hung well enough
and certainly words
have spurned my every attempt.
So then, the only thing left is to regress,
to spread my arms out
as wide as my frame will allow.
To say ‘This much.
I love you this much.’
Tom and David started Nightingale Poetry primarily as a means of getting poetry out into the world. Poetry is doing better lately than it has been for quite a while, but it’s still a small community and often it feels quite isolated. “By meeting our patrons before a word is written, we get a chance to understand first-hand, literally, who the poem is for and what they want from it.” This is David’s favourite part of the process; everyone has a story to tell, and every poem that comes out of it is different from the last. They have written more poems for couples and weddings than anything else, and believe it is such a pleasure to see people genuinely affected and touched by what they have written for and about them.
