You’ve heard it all before. The lead up to weddings are stressful (you’re thinking- well this is a revelation to me!) so it’s understandable that there will be things on the day or the night before that you might forget. So to avoid that, we’ve come up with a quick checklist of the things you need to remember. That way all you have to worry about is not tripping up the aisle (but you won’t- cos you’ll have a clear mind!).
Gathering gifts
At various points in the night people will try to literally throw gifts at you (many a black eyed bride have we seen- just kidding). Make it very clear to your guests that you have appointed someone to gather gifts for you. It’s also perfectly acceptable if you are at a hotel to leave them with reception, as long as the cards don’t have money in them. Either way, mention it during a speech that your bridesmaid or whomever will take care of them for you.
Overnight Bag
If your hotel allows you to check in early (assuming you’re not leaving that night for your honeymoon) bring your overnight bag earlier in the day or the night before. If there’s urgent things you’ll need the day of and after, get someone to check in your overnight bags for that night. You don’t need to be there to check-in yourself so appoint your maid of honour the duty!
Post Wedding Plans
Have you made plans for what you’re doing after the wedding? Assuming you’re not jet setting off immediately after the reception, it’s good to have a rough plan for you and your guests afterwards. If you’re having the reception in a hotel, the natural assumption is for you to stay there but if you’re at a different kind of venue, why not arrange a place to stay nearby with your friends and family? If you are planning on leaving the day after, don’t forget to arrange for a car to drive you to the airport (and maybe a wake-up call). Also, of course appoint someone to look after the dress!
Make a Wedding Agenda
Often hotels can beat you to this one. It’s called a BEO otherwise known as a Banquet Event Order. Our resident Customer Service Manager Vonla swears by them and says that they are essential for the wedding day running smoothly. Go over this list with the key players in your wedding day (the bridesmaids, best man and venue suppliers) to make sure everything will be in order and there are no overlapping times. Trust us, your photographer will thank you!
Thank You Notes
Schedule a weekend for yourself to open and list who gave you what for your wedding. Trust us, there’s nothing more awkward than trying to write a thank you note for something a guest hasn’t given you!
