September has arrived! With the reappearance of our electric blankets and the prospect of pulling on our thermal vests only weeks away, the gang at Polestars are dreaming about their favourite hen party destinations overseas.
Whilst Paris is easily the top pick for surprise engagements, we think Barcelona is the perfect city to celebrate your last weekend of freedom. For ladies that are less ‘falling out of a club clutching a poorly cooked kebab,’ and more inclined to explore the gorgeous buildings before enjoying a sumptuous paella in a sunlit piazza, then Barcelona is your kind of destination!
With so much on offer your group will be absolutely spoilt for choice; Barcelona is a haven for shopaholics, culture vultures, beach babes and party animals alike. Here are some of our favourite activities, which are ideal for large groups.
Picnic in Park Güell
This isn’t your bog-standard finger buffet in a slightly soggy field; this park is packed with flamboyant designs, gorgeous terraces and enclaves, not forgetting a giant mosaic salamander! Colourful and slightly magical, Gaudi’s wonderland of fairy chimneys and peaceful walkways is the perfect spot to catch up with your best girls, as well as providing an amazing backdrop for an impromptu photo shoot – why not collage the pictures together in a scrapbook for the bride?
Head to the harbour side
Treat the bride to a delicious brunch with a beach view. We recommend heading to the revamped Marina Port Vell for a lazy morning stroll before indulging in an array of traditional tapas dishes. Merendero de la Mari is our top pick for its fabulous sun terrace, breath-taking views and locally sourced seafood.
Barri Gòtic and Casa Batlio
For ladies that love exploring, head straight from the marina to the nearby Gothic Quarter. This labyrinthine network of tiny Medieval lanes is really a fascinating area to ditch the map, have a wander and really soak up the atmosphere. Barri Gòtic is famous for not indulging in a siesta so why not dive into a curious, traditional tavern for a mid-afternoon glass of vino? Once the gang has refuelled take a tour around Casa Batlio; Gaudi’s modernist museum has the famously intricate façade, which is known as national treasure of Barcelona. Well worth a visit, this masterpiece beats any Grand Design.
Life Drawing
Take inspiration from the Barcelona’s awe-inspiring Picasso museum, and indulge in one of Polestars’ Life Drawing lessons. Let your muse (a charming nude male model) strut around before you as you relax with a drink and sketch him in a variety of poses – under the instruction of one of our professional art tutors. This is the perfect activity for a cheeky hen party, suitable for both friends and family.
